Recently a Town Hall meeting was held in Sunnyside, NY, and was hosted by the newly minted Western Queens Coop Coalition. The purpose of the meeting was to educate and inform Coop homeowners about the impact that Local Law 97 will have on their maintenance charges. On June 20, 2023, at PS 121 in Douglaston, NY, a standing-room-only crowd showed up at the 450-seat auditorium at PS 221 to hear about the potentially devastating financial impacts of Local Law 97 mandated penalties and the draconian penalties imposed for non-compliance with the strictest carbon emission standards in the Country. The PCCC is happy to report that on the morning of June 10, 2023, the J51 tax abatement/exemption law(one of our signature issues in this session), which creates tax abatements/exemptions on capital improvement work was extended for two year period. Both the State Senate and Assembly approved the extension and now requires the Governor’s signature. The PCCC Executive Committee is pleased to inform you that on May 31, 2023, both New York State Legislature branches passed a four-year extension on the Coop and Condo abatement. The bill number in the New York State Senate is S.4972-A; in the Assembly, it is A. 3252. The law passed unanimously in the Assembly. The bill must still be signed by the Governor, which is expected to happen. The extension was the result of our partners in government understanding the issues that affect our members and taking action.
