Opposition to LL 97 Heats up at Town Hall

Approximately 380 people, many co-op shareholders and condo owners, packed into the reception hall at the Bay Terrace Garden Jewish Center Tuesday night for a town hall on Local Law 97 (“Climate Mobilization Act”), hosted by Councilmember Vickie Paladino (R-Whitestone). The purpose of the meeting was to inform shareholders of the upcoming Local Law 97 deadlines and the tremendous costs of retrofits and penalties that may be imposed on their Cooperatives. The various speakers emphasized possible legislative solutions including delaying the implantation of the enforcement of Local Law 97 for seven years and providing real estate tax credits for capital projects

Queens BP Meets with Coop Leaders re: LL 97 Issues

PCCC Leaders Hold Town Hall Meeting at North Shore Towers

On February 9, 2023, PCCC Co-presidents Warren Schreiber & Bob Friedrich, PCCC Legal Advisor Geoffrey Mazel, Esq. and New York State Assembly Member Ed Braunstein chaired a Town Hall Meeting at North Shore Towers, hosted by the Community Affairs Committee. The purpose of the meeting was to go over issues of importance to the shareholders of the Co-op community and update them on the work of the PCCC. The meeting was extremely informative and well-attended. PCCC Fighting Bill to Ban Criminal Background Checks on Co-op Buyers

As many of you know, yesterday the NYC Council Committee on Human & Civil rights held a hearing on the so-called “Fair Chance for Housing Act”(Intro 632). This legislation would ban Co-op and other owners of property from doing any criminal background check, except for the sex offender registry.  This extreme legislation has received strong pushback from the Co-op community. PCCC leaders Warren Schreiber and Geoffrey Mazel both submitted testimony in opposition to this legislation. In addition, our President members representing over 10,000 units of Co-op housing submitted testimony in opposition to this extreme legislation. City Council Hearing on Criminal Search Ban December 8, 2022
