The Executive Committee of the PCCC is pleased to announce another substantial victory in our efforts to ensure that only helpful common-sense legislation is enacted affecting our Co-op/Condo members. In the recent NY State Budget, a substantial portion of the legislation was devoted to the so-called “Good Cause Eviction Bill”. This bill has been languishing for years and in the previous iteration of the bill Co-ops and Condos were included as a covered housing accommodation. The bill as originally written would be disastrous for Co-ops and Condos. It was another in a long line of proposed legislation where the Legislators failed to recognize the
The Executive Committee of the President’s Co-op & Condo Council is pleased to advise that Intro 1197/2023, the “Co-op/Condo Rescue Act”, has now been reintroduced in the new legislative session of the New York City Council as Intro 0772/2024. This bill provides crucial elements to protect working and middle-class Co-op and Condo homeowners from some of the potential financial devastation of Local Law 97. This bill is a common sense approach to helping working and middle-class homeowners to comply with the onerous mandates under Local Law 97. The law is targeted for working and middle-class Co-op/Condo homeowners and studies have shown its’ passage would

We are pleased to inform you that the Parker-Braunstein Bill (Assembly Bill 5050), which provides real estate tax relief for carbon-reducing capital projects received a major boost this week. As you are well aware, the PCCC has been instrumental in the drafting and introduction of the Parker-Braunstein bill. This bill is part of our multi-prong approach to bringing relief from the devastating financial impact of Local Law 97 penalties and retrofits. The “boost” came in the form of two letters from New York City Council members in support of Parker-Braunstein. The first letter was sent by Council Member Justin Brannan from the 47th District, Brooklyn,
The PCCC Executive Committee would like to congratulate Tom Suozzi on his recent victory in the Congressional race for New York’s Congressional District #3. While the Queens portion only makes up about 20% of CD #3, the impact on the election’s outcome was significant. Mr. Suozzi won the Queen’s part of the District by 23%, which gave him a wide enough cushion so that the Associated Press could call the election without finishing the vote tabulation in the Nassau part of the District. A significant factor in Mr. Suozzi’s strong showing in Queens is his strong advocacy on behalf of Co-op
It is with a heavy heart that the PCCC Executive Committee announces the passing of former New York City Council member Paul Vallone. Paul represented New York City Council District 19 from 2014 to 2021. During his time in the NY City Council, Paul became a great champion for Co-op homeowners in his District and throughout the city of New York. In 2018, Paul was a pivotal figure in the historic sale of the ground leases from Cord Meyer to the Co-ops in the Bay Terrace Community, effectively saving the homes of thousands of Co-op homeowners. In 2020 in the early stages of
The Executive Committee of the PCCC met virtually with US Congressional Candidate Tom Suozzi today. Mr. Suozzi has a long and extensive history of working closely with Co-op and Condo homeowners and has been a great supporter of this community. Mr. Suozzi was instrumental in helping Co-ops qualify for Paycheck Protection money when he served in Congress in 2020 during the early days of the Covid pandemic. We discussed several issues of great importance to the Co-op homeowners in Congressional District 3 including Intro 1197, which amends Local Law 97 to lessen its impact on working and middle-class Co-op homeowners; procuring Inflation
The issue of the fair application of Local Law 97 (“the Climate Mobilization Act”) is a major issue in the Co-op/Condo community. It has received extensive press coverage in the last several months. The PCCC leadership is pleased to send you a recent Op-Ed in the Queens Courier by former US Congressman Tom Suozzi. In this Op-Ed, Mr. Suozzi cites a recent bill introduced by New York City Council Members Linda Lee and Sandra Ung known as Intro 1197. The PCCC is calling this bill the “Co-op Rescue Act”. As we have discussed in several prior memos to our members, this Intro is designed specifically
In the past several weeks, Queens Co-op homeowners have shown up in droves to voice their concerns about the potentially devastating financial impact of Local Law 97 and encourage New York City Council members to support Intro 1197, the so-called “Co-op Rescue Act”. These recent Town Halls were held in Sunnyside, Bayside, and Long Island City respectively. NY City Council member Julie Won attended the Sunnyside meeting, Vickie Paladino and Linda Lee attended the Bayside meeting and Tiffany Caban attended the Long Island City meeting. We are pleased to report that Council Members Won, Paladino, and Lee are all Sponsors of Intro
