As many of you know, yesterday the NYC Council Committee on Human & Civil rights held a hearing on the so-called “Fair Chance for Housing Act”(Intro 632). This legislation would ban Co-op and other owners of property from doing any criminal background check, except for the sex offender registry.
This extreme legislation has received strong pushback from the Co-op community. PCCC leaders Warren Schreiber and Geoffrey Mazel both submitted testimony in opposition to this legislation. In addition, our President members representing over 10,000 units of Co-op housing submitted testimony in opposition to this extreme legislation.
