PCCC In the News-Strong Support for Local Law 97 Tax Credits and Reform

On April 1, 2024, Assembly Member Ed Braunstein held a rally in support of NY State Legislation A-5050, which would provide tax relief for property owners for carbon reduction improvements in compliance with Local Law 97. The news conference was held at the offices of Beech Hills in Douglaston, NY to a packed crowd of press and onlookers. In addition, numerous elected officials were in attendance. They included NYS Senator Toby Stavisky; NYS Assembly Members Ron Kim, Sam Berger, and David Weprin; NYC Council Members Vickie Paladino, Linda Lee, and Sandra Ung. Featured speakers included the elected officials and PCCC co-Presidents Bob Friedrich and Warren Schreiber and PCCC Secretary Janice Schreibersdorf.

We would like to thank CM Brannan for his support on this bill and look forward to continue working with him to bring solutions to the implementation of Local Law 97 in a fair and equitable manner, without bankrupting a large swath of affordable housing in New York City, the Co-op and Condo community of homeowners.

PCCC Leader Janice Schreibersdorf Addresses the Audience

The elected officials expressed enthusiastic public support for Local Law 97 reform both in the form of tax credits and NYC Council bills 913 and 1197 to create fairness and equity in the implementation of Local Law 97. Without these reforms, Local Law 97 has the potential to spell economic disaster for affordable Co-op and Condo homeowners in New York City, with little or no benefit to the environment.

The PCCC has been the leader for these tax credits and reforms and will continue to do so until fairness and equity are achieved for Co-op and Condo homeowners.
