Opposition to LL 97 Heats up at Town Hall

Approximately 380 people, many co-op shareholders and condo owners, packed into the reception hall at the Bay Terrace Garden Jewish Center Tuesday night for a town hall on Local Law 97 (“Climate Mobilization Act”), hosted by Councilmember Vickie Paladino (R-Whitestone). The purpose of the meeting was to inform shareholders of the upcoming Local Law 97 deadlines and the tremendous costs of retrofits and penalties that may be imposed on their Cooperatives.

The various speakers emphasized possible legislative solutions including delaying the implantation of the enforcement of Local Law 97 for seven years and providing real estate tax credits for capital projects that reduce carbon emissions.

PCCC Leaders Co-President Warren Schreiber and Bob Friedrich and PCCC Legal Advisor Geoffrey Mazel were featured speakers at this Town Hall Meeting. Additionally, Council Member Linda Lee also was a featured speaker.
