As if there is not enough going on in the world, members of the Co-op community are keenly aware that the 32BJ union contract expires on April 20, 2022. The PCCC Executive Board and Counsel have been carefully monitoring these negotiations and have actively engaged the Realty Advisory Board (“RAB”) with some of our thoughts and suggestions.
At this point, the negotiations are in the very early stages and we have been informed that no substantive terms have been negotiated. It is our understanding that the Union has stated that they lost over 100 workers to Covid and that inflation has had a significant negative economic impact on their workers.
We will continue to monitor these negotiations and update you in due course. Historically, these negotiations will go do to the last minute until a deal is reached. We are hopeful that there will be an agreement and no need for a worker’s strike. However, all our members should be prepared in case of a strike and refer you to the link below, which is the RAB’s residential preparedness manual. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
